Gainswave® is a noninvasive treatment which utilizes sound energy to rehabilitate the corpora cavernosa of the penis. These are the 2 sponge-like cylinders which inflate with blood to create an erection. As men age, these cavernous bodies are believed to become fibrotic (matted) and this prevents adequate erectile activity. Also the blood vessels supplying the penis are not as compliant as they once were, this equates to less blood flow to the cavernous bodies. Finally, as many men age the sensitivity of the penis decreased. These three phenomena result in erectile dysfunction.

Gainswave® works to address these three problems. The sound energy delivered utilizes the same technology as lithotripsy (breaking up kidney stones). However Gainswave® utilizes approx 1/10 the energy required to break up a stone. We believe that the sound energy restores the sponginess of the cavernous bodies via the breakup of fibrosis. It also helps with neovascularization (formation of new blood vessels) and the breakup of micro-plaques in the existing blood supply. Gainswave® also helps to rejuvenate the  nerves of the penis, resulting in better sensitivity. Most people (up to 73%) make improvement with Gainswave®, although the treatment number may take between 6-12 treatments. This depends on the level of ED prior to starting treatment.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP is a therapy used to treat ED. This may be used as an adjuvant therapy to Gainswave® or as monotherapy. PRP has been used by orthopedic surgeons for many years to help speed up healing of joints, tendons, and muscles. PRP utilizes the patient’s own blood (drawn from the arm) and spun down in special tubes to sort the blood. This process eliminates the red cells and the water out of the blood. What is left is a very concentrated serum which contains platelet rich plasma, stem cells, and growth factors. This is the reparative blood products which allow the body to heal from injury. It is believed that this serum when reinjected into the cavernous bodies helps to repair them and make them function better.
